2015 Project – The Great Tasmania Walk of HOPE

On the May 16th 2015, Christopher Neil Linton, aka The Earth Walk Man, became the first person in recorded history to circumambulate the perimeter of Tasmania, Australia, using all paved or gravel thru-roads, some 1,400km, taking 300 walk-hours, over 46-days.

In doing so, not only did The Great Tasmanian Walk of HOPE’s expedition set three world records, 2 each for father Christopher Neil Linton and son KelvynCharles Young-Hyeon Linton (one of which they share):

  • 19th of April 2015 – Christopher Neil Linton and Kelvyn Charles Young-Hyeon Linton’s shared world record: The first father-son team in recorded history to walk across Tasmania, Australia from Port Arthur to Devonport, almost 600km over 19-days (counter-clockwise along the outer Eastern perimeter, a shared record)
  • 19th of April 2015 – Kelvyn Charles Young-Hyeon Linton’s world record (aged 14): The youngest person in recorded history to walk across Tasmania ( route described above )
  • 16th of May 2015 – Christopher Neil Linton’ world record: The first person in recorded history to Circumambulate Tasmania, Australia – along paved thru-roads counter-clockwise, some 1,400km, 300 walk-hours, over 46-days.

The Great Tasmanian Walk of HOPE successfully generated significant TV, Radio, Newspaper, magazine, and social media coverage toward the awareness of mental health issues and in combating the stigma associated with those that live with mental illness. The Great Tasmanian Walk of HOPE  raised significant funds for The Black Dog Institute.
